Nursery + Guest Bed Combo
Virginia Beach - Project Home Base “Live-In” Flip
If you’ve been following along on our crazy house flipping, business starting, live-in flip journey, you’d be familiar with the home improvement projects that are constantly going on here in our Project Home Base in Virginia Beach. We’ve slowly updated our hallway/kids bathroom, our living room, our kids’ shared bedroom, and now I’m ready to reveal our (just about) finished guest room and new baby’s nursery.
Nolan’s nursery had to be paired with our guest room even though we did add a fourth bedroom to our house when we first moved in. We debated between making the fourth bedroom a nursery and taking away what is now the playroom. After pro’s and con’s, we decided that a playroom was VITAL to our home. Our kids need a designated space to keep all their games, legos, “stuffies,” etc… no need to keep this room clean all the time. At the end of a crazy day, we just shut the door and relax in the (hopefully) clean living room.
The guest room/nursery is located adjacent to the big kids’ room. I wanted these two rooms to have some kind of cohesion to them. We added the vertical paneling to both rooms and painted both accent walls Aviatrix by Sherwin Williams and the other walls are Play It Cool also by Sherwin Williams. If you read the post about the big kids’ shared room, you saw that we used exterior wood siding for easy vertical paneling. It came from Home Depot in large sheets that we cut down to fit the wall. I believe we used 3 sheets per room.
I love the texture that the accent wall adds to the room and the airy feel that the very subtle greenish grey the walls add. I went for a boho/natural/earthy feel in the room. This macrame shelf was so affordable from Amazon and I love the earthiness the natural wood added, not to mention the practicality of the shelves.
Recently I’ve also been obsessed with plants! I will settle occasionally for fake ones but my real loves are the live, life-giving real ones! Aloe is one of my favorites because it’s truly so healing for skin - not to mention how fun it looks.
One of my biggest flaws is not being able to look past the imperfections or unfinished projects in the house. One of the biggest unfinished projects we still have left to accomplish is finishing the baseboards (as you can see above). Sean as promised me that we will be just about done with our live-in flip by this summer - baseboards included!
Because the room is fairly small after adding both a full size crib and a full bed, we did not have room for a dresser or any other organizational or baby furniture. I used these adorable woven magazine baskets for wall hanging diaper and wipe organizers instead! I love that they are on theme and also easy access to baby supplies.
One of Nolan’s big accomplishments has been trying out his new big boy crib for naps the last few days. His Pottery Barn crib was a generous gift from his grandma and it has been used for all of our kids.
One of my favorite features in the room is the Ikea recycled felt light fixture. I love the softness it brings to the room and also that it is made out of recycled materials. The herb prints above the bed are also a special feature to the room because they were a Christmas Gift from one of my best friends. I love to garden (very small raised beds, nothing crazy) so the herb prints bring the outdoors to our indoors. There are a few more details I want to add to the room. One addition will be choosing from bamboo shades and/or white linen or sheer curtains… only time will tell what I go with.
I bought our jute rug way back when from Amazon but I’m sure they still have similar ones on the site. Jute is such a natural material that I always want to sport in multiple places within our home.
After a little over two weeks, Nolan has slid in effortlessly into our daily lives and family dynamic. I’m always so fascinated by how after a baby arrives, it’s so hard to remember what life was like before them. I feel I’ve already gotten to that point with little man. I can’t stop taking pictures of him, like it should be, because he makes it so easy. I promise I will fill the website and my instagram with more real estate. For now, this little minion is the center of attention so if adorable, angelic babies isn’t your thing, then hold tight - so much real estate is coming down the pike!
